Within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland of Angola and the United States Department of Defense on Cooperation in Defense Matters, signed on May 17, 2017, the 2nd Meeting of the Angola–United States Joint Defense Cooperation Committee took place at the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland on August 5 and 6, 2026.

The delegations were headed by His Excellency the Secretary of State for the Military Industry, General Ref Afonso Carlos Neto, Chair, and the Honorable Daniel Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs (ASW ISA), Office of the Under Secretary of War for Policy (OUSWP), serving as Co Chair.

The Committee meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation in the field of defense, based on recent high level meetings between the United States Department of War and the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland of the Republic of Angola.

The heads of delegation signed an addendum to the regulations governing the organization and functioning of the Angola–United States Joint Defense Cooperation Committee, an instrument that will allow for closer and more regular coordination between their Armed Forces.

The parties intend to pursue a closer security relationship and will continue to review and work on implementing cooperation in the areas discussed during the next National Coordination Meeting (CCM), where operational and tactical issues will be addressed, with a view to implementing the strategic level discussions of the Committee. The next Meeting of the Angola–United States Joint Defense Cooperation Committee will be held in the United States in 2028.
