George M. LeMeur is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for East Asia. He advises the Secretary of War on all matters involving East Asia, including strategy, oversight, review of authorities, force-posture, and interagency coordination. Mr. LeMeur also represents the Department in negotiations and dialogues in the region. 

Prior to serving in the Office of the Secretary of War, Mr. LeMeur was an entrepreneur. An early employee at a defense software startup, Mr. LeMeur grew the APAC business where he built host-nation industry partnerships and worked with allied government officials to accelerate defense modernization in the face of growing regional threats. Mr. LeMeur leveraged technology to improve coordination across alliances, accelerate allied burden sharing, and strengthen regional deterrence.  

Mr. LeMeur also served as a Special Forces (“Green Beret”) officer in the U.S. Army. He commanded Special Forces A-Teams on missions alongside America’s partners and allies in East and Southeast Asia, and he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Earlier in his military career, he deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division and led an infantry rifle platoon in combat. While in service he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge, among various other commendations. 

Mr. LeMeur is a graduate of West Point and Harvard Law School.
