Jimmy Sapp

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Legislative Affairs

 

Mr. Jimmy Sapp has served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Legislative Affairs since October 2025. Previously, he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for House Affairs and concurrently performed the duties of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary from January to October 2025. With over a decade of government service, Mr. Sapp possesses extensive expertise in the congressional legislative process, public affairs, and Executive Branch priorities.

In this role, Mr. Sapp provides strategic leadership and guidance on all legislative matters affecting the Department of War.

Most recently, Mr. Sapp served as a Senior Professional Staff Member on the House Judiciary Committee. In this capacity, he advanced legislative initiatives focused on national security, congressional investigations, and policy development. Furthermore, he spearheaded congressional oversight investigations into operations within the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Prior to his time on the Committee, Mr. Sapp was a partner at a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. and previously led federal government relations for a venture capital firm specializing in security solutions, training, and technology integration for government and commercial clients.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Sapp served as a senior official at the U.S. Department of Justice, advising on management, operations, policy, and program issues within the Office of Justice Programs. He also served in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, where he managed national security and international affairs appointments.

Mr. Sapp began his career in roles at the Pentagon and worked on numerous state and national political campaigns as a political and fundraising operative.

He is a graduate of Troy University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences with a minor in Psychology.
