Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell provided the following readout:
Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs Daniel Zimmerman visited Romania to advance our bilateral defense relationship and shared commitment to operationalizing NATO's 5% defense spending pledge. In meetings with Romanian officials, Mr. Zimmerman reaffirmed America's commitment to NATO and underscored that U.S. posture decisions are a reflection of NATO allies' tremendous progress in bolstering their own defense and deterrence capabilities. Mr. Zimmerman reiterated further the Department's intent to continue working closely and collaboratively with Romania and other allies to strengthen NATO in the face of an increasingly difficult threat environment, including by helping allies to step up, and as they do, providing them with opportunities to take primary responsibility for Europe's conventional defense. Finally, Mr. Zimmerman met U.S. troops stationed in Romania and visited the Romanian-led European F-16 Training Center, which trains Romanian and Ukrainian pilots and exemplifies Secretary Hegseth's call for European burden-sharing.
