Brad Strausbaugh is Performing the Duties of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Americas Security Affairs. Prior to this role, Mr. Strausbaugh was the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of War for Homeland Defense and Americas Security Affairs.

Mr. Strausbaugh previously worked in the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Intelligence & Security, first as the regional lead for Western Hemisphere and Arctic matters, then as an assistant to a Director of War Intelligence, and most recently in multiple capacities developing intelligence partnerships in the Indo-Pacific.

Before joining the Office of the Secretary of War, Mr. Strausbaugh was on the Joint Staff supporting the Deputy Directorate for Intelligence Operations (J23) in the National Military Command Center. Preceding his time on the Joint Staff, Mr. Strausbaugh worked at the Defense Intelligence Agency as an executive officer within the Directorate for Operations.

Mr. Strausbaugh began his career as a ground intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps after completing Infantry Officers Course and Scout Sniper Unit Leaders Course. His first military assignment was with 4th Marine Regiment in Okinawa, Japan where he supported multilateral exercises and theater security cooperation throughout the Indo-Pacific. He was then assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps where he served as the ground reconnaissance capabilities integration officer, Marine attaché program manager, and lastly as the deputy for Marine intelligence support to the Commandant and the Secretary of the Navy. Before ending his regular active military service, he deployed to Helmand Provence, Afghanistan with Task Force Southwest and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with a combat device.

Mr. Strausbaugh holds a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in Military History and Political Science.

He is the third consecutive generation to have served in the United States Armed Forces, after his father who served in the United States Navy, and previously his grandfathers who served in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps.
