WEBVTT 00:14.659 --> 00:17.149 Hey , I'm Kent Cardwell . I'm a small 00:17.159 --> 00:19.379 craft operator with the Army Corps of 00:19.389 --> 00:21.940 Engineers , Jacksonville District . And 00:21.950 --> 00:24.500 we're down here post hurricane Milton , 00:24.510 --> 00:28.020 um , in Tampa Bay , Sarasota area on 00:28.030 --> 00:32.029 the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway doing 00:32.049 --> 00:34.479 a survey of the Intercoastal waterway 00:34.490 --> 00:37.229 so that barge traffic can resume and 00:37.240 --> 00:38.962 the coast guard can ensure the 00:38.962 --> 00:41.630 waterways are safe for all marine 00:41.639 --> 00:43.639 traffic . It's important to get the 00:43.639 --> 00:45.806 harbors open and running again because 00:45.806 --> 00:48.250 that's where , um , a lot of the , 00:48.259 --> 00:50.592 probably most of the petroleum products , 00:50.592 --> 00:53.119 gas and diesel and oil comes in to keep 00:53.130 --> 00:55.909 all the gas stations open . And , uh , 00:55.930 --> 00:58.319 a lot of the supplies , these supplies 00:58.330 --> 01:00.560 come into the port . So as soon as we 01:00.569 --> 01:03.590 can get them safe to , to travel again , 01:03.599 --> 01:05.710 um , for shipping , the sooner we can 01:05.710 --> 01:07.930 get all the supplies back to the folks 01:07.940 --> 01:10.051 on the mainland . We're doing a three 01:10.051 --> 01:12.162 line survey . So we run the middle of 01:12.162 --> 01:14.218 the channel and then both sides just 01:14.218 --> 01:17.790 kind of a quick and , um , fast 01:17.800 --> 01:19.911 survey to make sure there's and check 01:19.911 --> 01:22.022 for obstructions to make sure there's 01:22.022 --> 01:24.133 no big sand bars that have drifted in 01:24.133 --> 01:26.300 and completely blocked the channel and 01:26.300 --> 01:28.589 then we're checking for obstructions , 01:28.599 --> 01:30.766 of course , and these day beacons that 01:30.766 --> 01:33.150 are blown over , um , so the Coast 01:33.160 --> 01:35.271 Guard can know what they need to work 01:35.271 --> 01:37.216 on to get things back to operating 01:37.216 --> 01:39.271 safely . It's important for the Army 01:39.271 --> 01:41.216 Corps of Engineers to be down here 01:41.216 --> 01:43.160 doing this because it , uh , keeps 01:43.160 --> 01:45.339 shipping coming to these , uh , ports 01:46.129 --> 01:48.139 that can support fuel and all the 01:48.150 --> 01:50.739 supplies that need to come in . And , 01:50.750 --> 01:53.639 uh , that's our , that's our mission 01:53.650 --> 01:55.470 statement is to keep the , uh , 01:55.480 --> 01:58.269 infrastructure running , keep things 01:58.279 --> 01:58.819 moving .
